London 2012 - Legacy
London 2012
Wow!
What a summer of sport!
The Legacy
There've been plenty of things happening in our part of the world to do with the Games and plenty of local people involved. Still, there's a huge amount going on as a result of London 2012. Below is just a sample!
Tina takes tea at Number 10!
Essex Ambassador, Tina Weavers from Witham was a guest at a very select tea party on Monday when she joined 30 other London 2012 volunteers for tea at Number 10 prior to the Athletes Parade in London.
The Prime Minister welcomed volunteers from the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Downing Street to thank them for the part they played in making London 2012 such a huge success.
He paid tribute to their enthusiasm, dedication and great spirit which shone through right at the heart of the Games and showed the world the very best of Britain.
Tina says she was 'thrilled' to be selected for this once in a lifetime event.

Team Hadleigh textile showcasing Olympic legacy
Stunning textile banners are now on display at Castle Point Borough Council offices as a delightful addition of the Heritage Lottery funded, Essex County Council led and Team Hadleigh legacy project.
Leading up to the 2012 Games a group of 16 local volunteers met weekly at the Hadleigh Old Fire Station to create large scale textile banners, which visually display the heritage of Hadleigh and which were exhibited around Hadleigh Castle during the London 2012 Mountain Bike Event.
In addition to the textiles, the Team Hadleigh legacy project has seen the launch of a dedicated website and mobile web App which features an interactive heritage tour and audio guide of Hadleigh, taking in local areas of importance such as St James the Less Church and Hadleigh Country Park amongst others.

Over the past year, nearly 300 people who live or work in Essex have been recruited by ECC, in partnership with Southend Association of Voluntary Services (SAVS) working with the local volunteer centres, to act as Essex Ambassadors.

We Did It Right!
Wow, what a 16 days we had! We even had a right Royal time with the Games here in Essex when the Princess Royal, Princess Anne attended the Mountain Biking which took place over the last weekend at Hadleigh Farm!
20,000 people bought tickets on each of the two days - but thousands more turned up to just laze in the golden sun in some beautiful countryside in and around the Castle, soaking up the flavour and being a part of the 'Happy and Glorious' games.
